Lifespan Education Coordinator, George B. Miller

We would like to welcome George B. Miller as our new temporary Lifespan Education Coordinator; he will begin his work with us in mid-April.

Before relocating to Ireland in 2006, George was Executive Director of the Old Allentown Preservation Association, as well as manager for the state Elm Street Program.

George is a graduate of Rutgers and Princeton universities.

In Galway, Ireland he served as Director and Educator for Ala Theatre & Community Education Project.

As the Artistic Director of the Theatre Outlet in Allentown for 16 years, he created and collaborated on educational outreach programs with non-profit organizations, educators and volunteers. He is currently the Director of the "Just For Kids" after-school program with the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Allentown.

An actor, director and playwright as well as educator and administrator, you may remember his "Mark Twain" presentation at the church on Lechauweki Avenue from many years ago.

Director of Music, Larry Lipkis

Dr. Lipkis, the Starner professor of music and composer-in-residence at Moravian College, directs the composition and early music programs at the College.

He is an internationally known composer and long-time member of the Baltimore Consort, who also provides benefit performances at places like the Ice House and Trinity Soup Kitchen. He is on the Board of Directors of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, and serves as a music director for the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. Lipkis has written over eighty works for chamber ensembles, choir, and orchestra and performs and records with the Baltimore Consort, a world-renowned early music ensemble specializing in popular music from the time of Shakespeare.

In this part-time position, Dr. Lipkis will be overseeing the music programs at the church and directing the choir.

Member & Volunteer Coordinator, Tara Stephenson

Member and Volunteer Coordinator, Tara has quite a long and varied history as a volunteer herself. She volunteered as an area coordinator for Art Agnos' successful campaign for the mayor of San Francisco, she volunteered for her sons' activities, both in school as vice president for their elementary school PTA, grade parent for one of their classrooms throughout elementary school, newsletter editor for their high school instrumental music booster association, and taught many grade levels at a local summer peace camp. She has served THREE terms on the board of her family's favorite activity, the Unitarian Universalist Mid-Atlantic Community (UUMAC - a family camp). She has been on both the Youth and Adult Religious Education committees, the Communication Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Denominational Affairs Committee, the Board of Trustees (as trustee, vp and president) as well as having served as choir director, facilitator for HAVEN, the GLBT youth group at the UUCLV; she has set up tables and chairs, brought lasagna and brownies to events and sold food at the church's First Night celebration. She has chaperoned for the homeless shelter and Peace Walkers, done research and prepared and implemented a workshop at Lehigh University's Women's Center and canvassed for Obama. She has volunteered once a week as a hotline respondent for Crime Victims.

She holds a master's degree in pastoral counseling from Moravian Theological Seminary and did her internship year at Turning Point, a local domestic violence agency.

She has been a member of the UUCLV for almost 20 years and is working on knowing EVERYONE. Her husband and 2 grown and nearly grown sons are USUALLY supportive of all her volunteering!

Administrator, Kate Scuffle

KATE SCUFFLE has served as an administrator, producer and educator in the non-profit and arts community for many years. She was a founder and Managing Director of the award-winning original Theatre Outlet, and currently serves as Producer with Selkie Theatre.

Kate and her husband, George Miller, have just returned from 3 wonderful years spent teaching , writing and producing in Galway and Dublin, Ireland. While there, Kate also served as Editor of the Oughterard Magazine, a regional magazine serving the Connemara region.

In the Lehigh Valley, she has served on community Boards including Mayfair, WDIY Radio's CAB Board, Circle Of Stones Theatre, the South Side Film Festival and PA Stage Company's Outreach Advisory Board.
